Another fascinating look at the connection between writing,
creativity and drugs can be found in the writings of the Mexican
Octavio Paz (a poet and an essayist).  Check out his volume
_Alternating Current_, which has some essays on drugs and also
essays on writers who used drugs (Verlaine, Rimbaud etc).  He
writes very well, even in translation.
