Perhaps it's an American thing.  One of the reasons that Freud said "America is
a mistake" is apparently because he couldn't find a place to pee in NYC (this
being before the common use of stairwells, telephone booths, and especially the
subways).  

Then again, it's of perhaps some interest that urination is so often a theme in
Sigmund's writings--his memories of being chastized by daddy for wetting his
nightie, his theories on the discovery of fire, etc.
