Hi, y'all.

I'm new to just about everything here - computers, the web, e-mail, and
lists like this one. I am not, however, new to Pynchon.

I live in a small rural town in Oklahoma. Needless to say, I can find
no one here who has even heard of Thomas Pynchon. I forced my wife to
read COL49, but her favorite part was the call letters for the radio
station. I even had to explain your address. The first "search" I did
on the Internet was Pynchon. Boy, was I pleased.

Anyhow, I am happy to be on the list and look forward to entering some
discussions. I'm currently re-reading GR and am especially keeping an
eye out for messages about it.

One thing I would like some response on is this: tell of the first time
you ever came into contact with Pynchon's work. This interests me
because I can't remember mine. I know it was before graduate school,
probably during my senior year, but no clue on just when.

By the way, my grad and undergrad degrees come nowhere even close to
math or science, so if there is anyone out there who can explain things
like entropy and Poisson distribution to a third-grader, I would be
grateful.
