First I saw in print of the popcorn gag is in Peter Matheissen's
AT PLAY IN THE FIELDS OF THE LORD. I think it may pre-"date" (snicker,
snarf) GR...... and DINER, of course. But I had heard of it back in
HIghschool ROTC in the '60s.
