I read it -- it's sporadically entertaining and informative, but mostly
self-absorbed and precious. This is annoying: in IJ, I thought the use of
locutions such as 'and but so' was just mimetic conceit, the affectation of
21st-century teenspeak. Turns out DFW actually *writes* like this: in his
summary of Lynch's new film, he introduces paragraphs with "But then so"
twice, and "and but so" once. And to think he teaches university English.
Cheers,
Paul
