Speaking of the Navy, I've pondered that Pynchon navy photograph quite a
bit lately. This is the one someone on the list spoke of as showing a
person who (ITO) "couldn't write a screenplay for a Daffy Duck
cartoon"--though this may not be an exact quote. There is a lot of humor
and compassion in that young Naval face, though, isn't there? Also a great
deal of vulnerability.

Got to go watch "Wishbone" now...
