a V question

Thought I might take advantage of all this assembled brain-power & expertise
to ask a question about a minor reference in V -- after a dozen or so
readings since it's publication, I must confess I STILL haven't "heard the
one about the cork-soaker, the coke-sacker and the sock-tucker"
--- this joke being employed in the rescue of the sailor (forget the name)
who, despondent over the loss of his teeth, attempts to jump over the side.
My question: is there more to the joke, or is it it's own punch-line?
Wouldn't waste the list's time on such trivia if things hadn't been so
eerily QUIET the last week or so.
Thanks in advance.
Peace, love & murder
