Ok, looks like we got enough people on board for a boat trip and maybe
even the full cruise. I would like to be involved in organizing the
read but feel like I at least need a second (or I'll take the role of
second), particularly as I am going to be away all December.

My idea is to go through part 1 reading each of the 22 sections in
turn and synchronising for commentary every two weeks. At 177 pages
that averages about 8 pages per section which would mean a real close
reading. With the really small sections like the opening (Pirate's
dream) we could combine them with the previous or next section,
whichever is more appropriate, so we would probably manage about 15
pages per fortnight. this means the reading would go on for about 20
weeks i.e. we would make it past Xmas into the new year.

As far as managing the reading goes I would expect to post questions
and comments at the synchronisation point for others to follow up but
everyone would of course be free to initiate whatever discussion they
felt appropriate. If someone will second me (or you lead and I'll
follow) then we can publish a joint commentary.

Now I propose a start in, say, 2 weeks - giving people enough time to
finish reading V and clear the decks of any other flotsam or jetsom.
So, what I need is i) agreement or dissent from the above plan (but
please only dissent if you can provide a constructive alternative) and
ii) someone who is willing to help run the thing.

Don't all shout at once.
