Need feedback and elaboration :)
I see the obvoius connection between Tristan/Tristero, they both are
myths. Scholars and other learned individuals trace the romance of
Tristan back to th 12th and 13th century, when chivalry was a code woven
into the fabric of societal encounters.
What I'm trying to say, in an unprofound way, is that the idea of the
Tristero and the conspiracy, as Oedipa is concerned, sucks her into the
post horn and W.A.S.T.E investigation.
"The passion contained in the original myth spreads out into
everyday life, invades the subconscious, and invokes or, if necessary,
inventes new compulsions............. In having shed its original guise,
it has merely become more dangerous. Fallen myths can distil venom even
the dead truths alluded to by Nietzche."
From: Love In The Western World (D de R)
In my interp. Oedipa is overwhelmed by the above which drives the passion
of t he plot.
Another interesting tid-bit is Pynchon has a nephew named Tristan Taormino?
