Not exactly a technical writer: 10 years writing and editing for Discover, Omni,
some science books and TV. Since then, marketroid writing -- speeches, video,
interactive -- for computer, telecomm and pharmaceutical companies.

I like your "gameplaying" characterization. I probably read as much criticism and
meta- and neo- and post- as I did science, for a decade or more after college, but
eventually tapered off for just that reason. I kept seeing real brilliance taking
a perverse delight in painting itself into verbal corners, and the same excited
rediscovery that Yes, It Does All Depend on Your Perspective, Your Language, Your 
Assumptions, etc.
