In addition to the above red herring, P-l'ers are finding everywhere clues
which betray the huge publicity machine at work behind P's new novel:
-The '96 Audi A4, it's a rocket, the promos say,, next year it will come
with a copy of GR in the glove box,,,? (anybody drive one of these?) VW
(Hey, Beavis, he said 'VW,' heh heh) ,,, VW integrating much of the German
war technology into its cars, I mean mythology into its image,,,? take that
VR-6 engine,,, something about the unique V shape of the valve head is it
24V or 12V,,,? It was Roger's idea: VW Made in Mexico,,, Does that mean
it falls apart sooner? No, it can't fall apart, you see, it was never
together, an illusion of unity, these weld spots all over the place, never
precisely at the joint...
-Those damn McDonald's opening up everywhere, sending up those golden
arches, one coming soon into Peenemünde with just one big arch,,,?
-Can anybody tell me what it costs to get NPR to say "Xanthan Gum" once
every hour,,, "This program is brought to you by Eddie, the corner drug
dealer. Remember, smack is today's opiate of the masses." (No offense to
the heroine users on the list.) Or how much for a spot on the planetary
movements of Venus, telling you where get your own surveying equipment,,,?
-Pynchon last seen on the back of a record album by a band called Lotion,,,?
-Pigs wrestling on Litterman,,,? Somebody please tell me what this is
about,,,? because I mainly look at my TV turned off,,, to better see my
reflection
Christopher
