Haven't much time to read or respond to what's going on on the Pynchon-l
these days.  Whenever I do dip in, as I did a minute ago, I head for
Steelyhead postings.  

So: check out some of the stuff other, non PoMo people have been saying and,
some of them, actually doing over the last few years.  Martha Nussbaum, for
example.  Do all elements of all cultures deserve to be protected?  Does
culture come before human beings and their lives?  Think not, think you will
agree.

As for post-modernism: is was onanistic to begin with and the academic left
went for a ride it had no business getting on in the first place.  Don't ask
me why, I'm sure you can come up with a couple of explanations on your own.

And give it up on M Piercy: who on earth is touting her as a major 20th
cent. writer?  Some young careerists may put her on their reading lists, but
have you ever checked what used to be taught 20, 30, 40 years ago?  No
reason for either despair or outrage, about this.
