Gravity Henry, weighs in to defend his friend Chris, who was never, ever
challenged by me:
>I hope you don't have the temerity to deny that in the above closing,
>you imply that Chris had suggested that the VV has degenerated
>because it has become a free press, rather than answering the
>reasons that she actually enumerated.
Chris didn't enumerate "reasons," but simply cited anecdotal evidence about
cover stories on fashion model's and the big H or homeless upper class
white boys or whatever. I provided an amusing reason that people who had
written for the VV in the past told me. I thought the argument absurd and
an interesting parallel to G. Hardin's theory of the Tragedy of the
Commons, rightly reviled by most humanists as racist and misanthropic.
>I haven't had the pleasure of
>reading the article that you wrote in the VV. From Chris' humorous
>(humor is permitted, isn't it Steely?) recommendation, I had thought
>that the article was probably rather good. Might be. I'm sure that I don't
>have access to the material to which you refer in your VV article,
>but if in your VV article you use source material is as partial and
>inaccurate as it was in you reply to Chris...
Our article was extraordinarily biased, partial, and inaccurate. Used to be
you couldn't get away with this at the Voice. But since they went freebie,
they had to fire all their fact-checkers and libel lawyers. Now, you can
say damn thing you want.
>Maybe it's NOT academia that has ruined the world. Maybe its
>irresponsible journalism, free or otherwise. <meow>
hey, I don't deny that.
Adios,
Steely
