1.) "In silence, hidden from her, the camera follows as she moves
deliberately nowhere longlegged about the rooms[...]"
Note the ambiguous point of view of this opening. (It takes a few
paragraphs for the reader to be able to determine who's watching who,
for example.)
The only "ambiguity" I ever noticed is that we are being omnisciently
presented with both a film shoot and Katje and Osbie going about their business.
Guess I never paused long enough after the first sentence to get the feeling
we might be viewing a movie and were all too conscious of the camera work.
Think an equal case could be made that we are inside Katje's
head--a Katje very aware of how she photographs. The camera is hidden from her but she may somehow know it's there. There are a few minor problems
with a Katje-pov. One obvious one is that the often discussed "rainiest day in recent memory" wouldn't naturally come to mind in a person so recently in the country.
The "this is only a movie so anything can happen" would be an interesting
techique. Too painful for the reader to sustain however. The fact that a
movie is being made is important to the plot and can't be subverted for long.
Later in the episode--This is the Hansel and Gretel story so the
only one in danger of being baked is the witch. A really good
example framing.
Going to have to read this section a lot more carefully than ever before
to keep up with you folks
