(Sorry Murthy, I did it again)

Murthy sez: Yes on all counts - I haven't made it past page 250 myself.
I had the

same reaction to all the Pynchon comparisons of both Delillo and

Wallace. They're somewhat enjoyable, but nowhere near as interesting or

powerful as TRP and the comparisons are kind of annoying. I've been

trying to read _Mao II_ for the past one year -

What I found refreshing about IJ was its portrayal of horrific drug
abuse, something I think TRP does not address, for whatever reason. We
should see what follows IJ. I think Dave needs to break his own ground
next time. He's done the mimesis. Maybe he should concentrate on
himself while looking in the creative mirror sometime. I hear his short
stories are good, though I can't bring myself to read Broom of the
System. He's ripped off Pynch, he's ripped off Gaddis. It's time for
Wallace next time. (and I'm not talkin' Mike here)

I do agree with Steely about Delillo's voice and comparisons with TRP are
really not fair to either writer. Delillo doesn't write like Pynchon and
thank god for that
