Moderation, consistency and Barth

"Moderation in moderation" reminds me of the riff in Barth's
FLOATING OPERA. The narrator decided early in his life always
to be unpredictable and inconsistent. However, he realized a
paradox. To be 100% unpredictable would be to be predictable!
So he picked one area of his life (breakfast menu?) and standardized
it, thus inserting just enough consistency into his inconsistency
to be truly inconsistent! Kinda like the dot of contrasting
color in each yin-yang half.....
