Science, at its core, is a method. If used for human (humane?) 
purposes, it can be quite 'alive', I expect. And then, of course, 
there are the transhumans, extropians, etc. Wanna live forever? Join 
one of their lists for a week, and (apart from sometimes thinking 
that you have joined some sort of vRibbentrop seance) you begin to 
seriously think this is not just wishful thinking - science will catch up 
with death someday, it seems....
