I enjoyed your memory of the "unChristian" warning at the front of the
original paperback of Lot 49.  Kind of like Twain's message at the front of
Huck Finn:  "Persons finding a moral in this story will be shot, etc."
You're probably recalling the two-sentence blurb from that stellar source
of reviews, Publishers Weekly, the second sentence of which runs...
"Conservative readers may be confused and somewhat appalled by the sexual
frankness, but mature readers interested in something new and different
will find good reading (i.e., writing?) well done here."  I especially like
that sly implicit statement that conservatives are immature.
