Seriously, I just subscribed to this list.  I have read TP's three main 
works (GR, V, CL49) .  The first I heard of GR was by reading Harold 
Bloom's Western Canon.  Seems Bloom is pretty keen on TP's originality 
(which is a requirement to make the list).  I was wondering how other 
people found out about Pynchon.  I mean, you just don't go into a 
bookstore, do some browsing, and buy a copy of GR without knowing what's 
in store for you.  My biggest mistake was reading GR *first*.  I should 
have started with CL49; it would have saved me alot of grief.  However, 
reading V. after GR was a pretty rewarding experience for some reason.
