Alas, I fear I must disillusion you about gobstoppers... they're only 
fireballs without the fire, i.e., "jawbreakers."  They come in a variety 
of sizes, from the tiny (about 1/3" in diameter) to huge (2" or so).  
Like the American jawbreakers, they are layered, so as one layer 
dissolves another appears beneath it.  If one worries one particular side 
of the thing, you can come up with a cavity several layers deep, looking 
something like an eye, but I suspect that the allusion is merely to the 
shape.
