Uncomfortable TV

A-and isn't the presence of that modicum of subversion merely a
reflection of the need for an alter ego, a Counterforce, to maintain
the conviction that there is a dialectical process at play, that we
will be granted some choice, some control. If They are to exist at all
then We must be allowed our little cravings and They must calm us with
(possibly/probably empty) reassurances. And They *do* exist, don't
They?
