grip is also known amongst the non-cyber world as Lawrence "Larry" Bryan. 
He teaches mathematics at San Jose City College. Larry reads a lot of 
different things, from space time physics (he's struggling through a book 
by Penrose and Hawkings at the moment) through modern history, ("The Dark 
Sun", a history of the development of the H bomb), to various literary 
master (and not so master) pieces. He just started a translation of 
Celine's "Death on the Installment Plan" where on page 20 he has just 
read, "For fifteen years now they've seen me struggling along out here in 
the Zone; the dregs of the dregs take liberties with me, show me every 
sign of contempt." Yes, zone was capitalized in the book. hmmmmm.
