Having been away from his computer for a few days, he finds himself at the
tail end of the personal-info parade. Nonetheless, Steven Maas grew up
amongst the cows and the corn in Nebraska and has lived in Tampa for 11
years. He is about to turn (gulp) 40. He spent several years in the
blue-collar world before returning to college in the early 80s. He has a
BA in History and an MA in Anthropology and is a researcher at a
transportation-policy think tank at the Univ. of South Florida. He has,
unfortunately, not met his soon-to-be-ex-co-employee Bonnie. He is
getting tired of being known as a Tampan and of sweltering in the
incredible heat and humidity of Florida--where there's nine months of
summer and three months when it's not quite so hot--and is wistfully
looking towards the opposite corner of the country. He stumbled onto GR
in his blue-collar days at a public library around 1975 or so, and hasn't
put it down since, metaphorically speaking. He has seen nothing to change
his conclusion that it's the greatest novel of all time--and the other
books ain't bad either.
