This is new to me. I hadn't known Pynchon was taken _that_ much notice 
of in the 60's--enough to have a term of semiderision attached to his fans. 

In the _late_ 60's I socialized a bit with a few of Cornellians living
in Washington DC (the late Andrew Kopkind whose name once came up on
this list was among them) who were at school with Tom and this did, at 
least once, come up in conversation (none seemed to have much to relate
as I recall), but aside from that I don't remember much mention at all.

Would like to learn more.
