Teaching a co-worker to search a database, I used Pynchon's name
as an example and came up with two books by Thomas Ruggles Pynchon,
1823-1904 -- a great-grandfather, I assume. For those who collect such
trivia, I include the titles: BISHOP BUTLER, A RELIGIOUS PHILOSOPHER FOR
ALL TIME and INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL PHYSICS, DESIGNED FOR THE USE OF
ACADEMIES, HIGH SCHOOLS, AND COLLEGES.
Even more exciting to me was the discovery that Jeanette
Winterson, the English novelist, wrote a handbook on physical fitness
before she composed ORANGES ARE NOT THE ONLY FRUIT.
My third-person biography? "Andrew Walser is verbonden aan de
vakgroep Engels van de universiteit van Illinois-Chicago, U.S.A."
