I could call myself a prodigal, except that I've not
been on this list before, so I'll just say that I've
been negligent in continuing my research on TRP. I'm
happy for the opportunity to monitor (and, in the future,
take part in) so much informed dialogue concerning Pynchon
and other contemporary authors.

I started reading Pynchon in 1990 during my first semester
of graduate work in English. I wrapped up my graduate work
with a thesis on *Vineland*--parts of which I hope to publish.

As I recall, someone way back in 1994 was writing a thesis
around the theme of binary in Pynchon's works. I'm sorry
I could not have offered my thesis as a reference at the
time. I dedicated a lot of discussion to binary imagery (the
excluded middle included), visual media, and the concept of
mental spaces--more of which I'll discuss in the future when
I have an opportunity to develop the relationship between
theories of mental space and the structure of *Vineland*.

Lurking until then,

Bill (aka Zoydman--playing a conservative bass continuo in the background
before charging the polyphony)
