I read GOLDBUG a few years ago and I would also recommend it.  I would 
also recommend Powers' THREE FARMERSON THEIR WAY TO A DANCE.  I've yet to 
get around to GALATEA, could get through PRISONERS DILEMMA or OPERATION 
WANDERING SOUL.
