the Great War and the grand disillusion

All this talk about modern warfare has me wondering if anyone out there 
(dumb question, given the kinda yokels who participate here) can direct 
me to one or two (or ten) good histories of
a) the Boer War (is that what you're supposed to call it [hag]?),
b) the Spanish Civil War,
c) the Irish, uh, civil war (?), ca. 1916-1921?
These three events have always interested me, but I've never really 
studied them...
