Which reminds me of a scene in one of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics
(I've just read the lot this last month and recommend them almost as
highly as Alan Moore's Halo Jones). In the story where baby Daniel
dreams his way to the land of Nod and is told stories by Eve, Cain and
Abel, at his return there is a striking image of a baby in a cot and
the question is posed whether the baby is smiling or whether it's just
gas.

To the stilled Earth say: I flow.
To the rushing water speak: I am.
