While still slogging thru Blood Meridian I noticed the last sentence of 
the fifth chapter (I don't have the book with me but will get exact 
details) ends with these four words.  

and...

For those who think Vineland inane and recent TRP as some fluff in 
decline, I remind you that people change for Christ's sake.  You get a 
bit older, you have kids, you live in NYC, and slipping out to search the 
world, tripping as you go don't seem so much fun no more.  Who the fuck 
wants to end up like Hemingway?  I'd rather re-read Vineland than 
anything by that guy as I get older.  I'll shut by saying do we hate 
books by known authors because we don't believe they will be read 100 
years hence?  Is that why Vineland was disappointing to many?  Let's lose 
the snobbish critic-face...please.
