That was The Commitments - and a very good little flick it was, too. 
(I remember the band's manager motivating his band, and his choice of 
Soul, something like this: "The working class are the niggers of 
society and the Irish are the niggers of Europe, so say it out loud, 
I'm black and I'm proud") The guy who played the lead was in the news 
recently for making rude gestures (vomiting, etc.) at the cameras while 
Michael Jackson was performing 'Earthsong' on stage.
