I remember one cartoon where this was first sung by a chorus of sailors,
then solo by a dopey-voiced character who followed the last "shoving right
off for home again" with a spoken "And we are, too.""
Yes, that's the Powell caricature--as an obligatory reference to Pynchon, let's
not forget Dick's original version of "
The Shadow Waltz," accurately described in GR as "dreamy," and which Tyrone
reprises on the tuba(?). That, btw, is from GOLDDIGGERS OF 1933, the
most "socially conscious" of the Busby Berkeley Warners musicals, highlighted
by Joan Blondell vamping "Remember My Forgotten Man."
