Pynchon List Archive Searching

Foax,

I've been doing lots of compilation recently so I've been able to pass
the hours away writing some WWW scripts to add search facilities to my
Pynchon Archive. This allows you to search the folders in the archive
looking for notes by a particular author, or notes containing a
keyword in the subject line/body of the note. Plus combinations of the
above, of course.

Actually, you should be able to use regular expressions (as defined by
sed if that is meaningful - if not don't ask) to specify the author
name or keyword. Note that the search is case sensitive so if e.g. you
want to search for `Andrew' or `andrew' you would have to provide the
pattern [Aa]ndrew.

The relevant URL for the search form is:

    http://www.cee.hw.ac.uk/~andrew/pynchon-l-search.html

Conventional archive browsing (including all but a handful of notes
from 1994 up to the end of last month) plus access to the other main
Pynchon resources on the Web is still available from the usual place:

    http://www.cee.hw.ac.uk/~andrew/pynchon-l.html

The search page is linked from there too so if you want to bookmark
one URL use the latter.

The search may still be a bit flaky and slow for now, particularly if
you elect to search all folders, but it should be functional and help
locate some gems. At least we have a (very) fast net feed. For this
version I'm using ksh, sed and awk. The go-faster perl version will
follow when I finally get enough time to grapple with perl syntax and
when I get some feedback on how well this one functions.
