I found Dahlgren to be the biggest literary waste of time I ever
encountered. It kept promising the possibility of a plot JUST enough to keep
me from tossing it aside but when I was finished I had gained NOTHING. I
only recommend it to people I don't like.

Well, yes--absence and deferral were some of its strong points.  Giving the reader 
experiences he or she might spend a lifetime trying to avoid was another.      -jm
