I am sure that any teacher who wanted to could arrange a showing of
"Night and Fog," Marcel Ophuls' direct, non-dramatized documentary.
Granted, this requires someone to arrange it, whereas "Schindler's List"
was out there in the theaters with a zillion-dollar promotion campaign
going for it. I dunno, maybe it is better that thousands of people with
no awareness of the Holocaust got some idea, instead of continuing to be
unaware. Nevertheless, it is galling that a seriously compromised
version of the story got all the exposure, instead of the real thing as
presented by Ophuls. Frankly, I think it's as if people had no clue
about World War II and we had to feel grateful to old John Wayne movies
for "educating" them.

Cheers,
David
