I too believe there is an elaborate coding about Vietnam embedded in both
CoL 49 and GR.

But where is it in Vineland? Certainly it would have been safe to broach
the war and its aftermath then, if, in fact, safety was ever a concern,
which I don't believe it was.

But there have been great books written on Vietnam, certainly better books
than movies, starting with:

Mailer--Armies of the Night
John Del Vecchio--The Thirteenth Valley
Francis Fitzgerald--Fire in the Lake
Tim O'Brien--Going After Cacciato, and The Things They Carried
Philip Caputo--A Rumor of War
Wallace Terry--Bloods
Stephen Wright--Meditations in Green
Jayne Anne Phillips--Machine Dreams
Michael Herr--Dispatches
