I agree. Moralism is not very wise here. _La Petit Soldat_, Godard's
unyielding movie about the Algerian war, was banned for many years, and
even then, in 1963, it could not be shown without deletions. But for all
the compromises they had to make, Godard, Resnais, and other Nouvelle
Vague directors were important in the struggle to make the French society
freer and more democratic.
