I'm cooking up a theory of who Mondaugen is, and I don't know if this
has been talked about hitherto, so I'll just throw this out as a teaser,
a proto-string starter: who is Kurt Mondaugen? What is his 'position' in
V.?

Mondaugen is the uncorrupted Nordic, the (impartial?) witness to
all the bad-German-romantic decadence at Foppl's, but most importantly
another male affected powerfully by V.
Actually he's none of this and more, just an "impersonation" of
Herbert Stencil, the high priest/prophet in the wilderness of cabalistic
gnosticism.
	What else could he be???

BTW, on the Nabokov thread, anybody read _Invitation to a
Beheading_? It's one of my favorites...
