V. and The Recognitions

The Whole Sick Crew of V. and Gaddis' cocktail-partying Villagers in the
Recognitions seem quite similar--intellectual and artistic posers, decadence,
and a lot of booze flowing with both groups in New York in the fifties.   Also,
both novels shift settings all over the world...Could The Recognitions, published in 1955, be an influence?
