It doesn't really matter what he does - he's boxed anyway. Whether as a
Sci-fi or postmodern or whatever trendy-but-easily-put-downable category
of writer, or as a pop-culture celebrity - it doesn't really matter.
Anyway, if he can exploit pop culture for his work or amusement, I'm
sure he can expect pop culture to chew him up and spit it out without
getting much of a taste.
What I mean to say is that, I'm sure that when he chooses to do things
like the Lotion interview (which I haven't yet read, by the way), he has
to expect to be exploited in return. May be it would've been better if
the Lotion interview had been done by Wanda Tinasky. Myself, I'm
dreading the "Pynchon wears khakis" ad.
