Maybe he's saying the _whole book_ is one big allusion. (It's magnificent,
whatever it is.)
Seems to me there may even be allusions to allusions. Seven pages
after the shameful Bodine form letter to the Moms (same footnote 110),
Orin is rebuked by other son Hal for his "psuedo-impersonal replies to
her pathetic letters." Orin's reply: "A private chuckle. She'd never
get it."
Bonnie mentioned earlier the frequent occurence of the letter V in
IJ. But has anyone been struck by the notable _absence_ of the
Goddess V in the makeup of the central characters. Both
are too occupied with other addictions.
