Apropos of _GR_ as an L.A. novel (and everything else), don't anybody be put 
off by the seeming horizontality of _El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina 
de Los Angeles_. For many years one of the most beloved of local landmarks 
has been the famous _Watts Tower_ composed entirely of old bottles and tin cans.

Need totemic vertically?  Look no further.

I'm recklessly assuming the thing is still standing. Please advise. I 
know it survived the earlier riots. Due respect was shown.

Moreover, a close reading of the original name (see above) indicates L.A. 
to be not only a city of angels but to an even greater degree a city of
their Queen, the last of the virgin goddesses. 

Is not the Pynchon ouvre all of a piece?
