I find it odd that some waited until the end to read the footnotes-if you
did you wouldn't know of JI's Film histography e.g. (ala Citizen
kane-giving you all the elements like Slothrop's desk that will
eventually turn up later in the book) Unless this is a book like Perec's
Life: A User's Manual where there are literally eight different ways to
read the damn thing (Bartlebooth Bartlebooth Bartelbooth instead of a
linear reading e.g.)

Saw a guy on the train yesterday reading IJ with a goofy smile on his
face-I knew he was reading it by the way he was doing that flopping back
and forth and twisting his neck alot.

Did anyone notice the true center of the book? I will not give it away
for those still plowing through.

And finally thanks whoever for the Wilton Barnhardt recommendation-loved
Emma Who Saved My Life-am going to start Gospel today.

P.S. Anyone catch the review in NYTBR 3/17-review of somehting called
The Holiness of the Beard-about a Zoyd Wheeler type in seedy San
Diego-will get the title and author tomorrow-reviewer compares it to
Vineland
