          I think the zeitgeist has changed, yes. Sex is no longer a secret: it's
          only illegal in some permutations, then only in Virginia. The fallout
          of sex being like shaking hands in the 70s is that now, although not
          casual, it's mundane. Masturbation is mentioned on every Thursday's
          must see TV.  Why hide it?
             Drugs: now that's a secret vice. Illegal, your teachers want to talk
          you out of it, it got River Phoenix...I babble.

          His liking for getting high was irretrievably, irrevokably, and 
          irredeemably linked up with the need to keep it a secret.
