I wouldn't go that far. A lot of it is undoubtedly due to the deliberate
excess which characterizes the book.

I'm not sure; GR doesn't seem to have all that much on the subject of
women's relationship to Them.  Katje is the woman most closely tied to
Them, and her motivation seems to be safety.
