Cape cruiser

        Can anyone kill or confirm  this one for me. Must be three or so 
years ago a mate from back home wrote to me, kindly informing me I'd missed 
a sighting of TP on the telly. He being videoless I had only his word to go 
by, and I remember being very skeptical at the time, but he insisted the 
programme included footage of the man himself going around Jonathan Cape's 
London offices shaking hands with all and sundry (presumably to do with the 
UK launch of Vineland). Pressing him for details was like nailing sago to 
the ceiling and all I got in the way of a description was "tall, nondescript 
and getting on a bit" - yeah, thanks a lot Chris if you're out there! If it 
turns out this is all common knowledge, I offer exile as my only excuse. :)
