Me, just finished The Moor's Last Sigh and about to complete (several years 
late) Satanic Verses.  Both highly recommended.  Maybe Midnight's Children 
is SR's though.

As for Wang Dang Doodle  -  Best is without a doubt Howlin Wolf's.  hands 
down.
