Virus, Huh?

In regard to the latest notes over the so-called "Good Times" non-virus hoax:
I've seen this item pop up with regularity on one list or another every few
months now, ever since *I* got hoodwinked by it a year and a half ago.
What I wonder about is the nature of the hoax itself. It seems to make no
sense, because if there is no such virus, then it is highly unlikely that
I will ever get a post with the subject "Good Times!" and even if I did, it
is unlikely that it would do me much harm to delete it unread.
So where's the thrill here? In making a bunch of net-users uneasy until they
are disabused? Keeping them on the alert for non-existent posts?
It all seems like a cybernetic Borges story (if that's not a redundancy!).
