I am now about 60 pages in and I can say that it is just average.
I don't know if it is because it really is just average or
because all his other stuff is so great that this pales in comparison.
Its a pseudo-autobiographical novel....sort of like Vollmann's
"Butterfly Stories". 

My Erickson faves are "Tours of The Black Clock" and the (sort of)
Non-fiction "Leap Year".
