With the Pynchon group tossing about theories of the rainbow and their
significance to Gravity's Rainbow - can I point out that this discussion is
one that has been focus of many Finnegans Wake studies, especially with
respect to Berkley's theories of light?

The principle male in FW is dressed in rainbow hues on a number of
occasions, and there is philosophical/religious/nationalist debate on the
nature of colour in the final book of FW between a druid and St Patrick
which results in the overthrow of an older order and the institution of a
new basis for state domination-religion etc. And of course, the rainbow
motif in FW is inextricably bound to the young females so eager sought after
by these competing males....
